EESSI (Electronic Exchange of Social Security Information) is a decentralized IT system that enables social security institutions in 32 countries within the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom to exchange data for the purpose of implementing the Regulation on the coordination of social security systems. By simplifying the exchange of data on social security among the countries involved, citizens are enabled to exercise their rights more quickly, and the possibility of error or abuse in the procedure itself is significantly reduced.
The EESSI access point in the Republic of Croatia is the Central Registry of Affiliates (REGOS), which provides services for the use of the system and the exchange of information for the remaining competent institutions involved - the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute (HZMO), the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) and the Croatian Health insurance Fund (HZZO).
The EESSI system started operating in Croatia in 2019, and its implementation has largely contributed to the improvement of administrative processes and international cooperation in the field of social security, which has ensured faster and more efficient processing of requests, transparency of procedures and better protection of citizens' personal data.
